🥟 Chicken Wonton Soup Recipe
Ingredients
For the Wontons:
1 lb ground chicken
2 green onions, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp grated fresh ginger
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
1 package wonton wrappers
For the Broth:
6 cups chicken broth (low-sodium if preferred)
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 small carrot, julienned
1 cup baby spinach or bok choy
1 tsp fresh grated ginger
2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
Instructions
Make the Wonton Filling
In a bowl, combine ground chicken, green onions, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
Assemble the Wontons
Place 1 teaspoon of filling in the center of each wonton wrapper.
Brush edges lightly with water, fold into a triangle, and press edges to seal.
(Optional: Bring the two corners together and pinch for a traditional wonton shape.)
Prepare the Broth
In a large pot, bring chicken broth to a gentle boil.
Stir in soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and carrots. Simmer 5 minutes.
Cook the Wontons
Gently add wontons to the simmering broth. Cook for 5–6 minutes, or until wontons float and chicken is cooked through.
Add the Greens
Stir in spinach or bok choy and cook for 1–2 minutes until wilted.
Serve & Garnish
Ladle soup into bowls, garnish with sliced green onions, and enjoy hot.
Tips for Success
Seal wontons tightly to prevent them from opening in the broth.
Don’t overfill wrappers — a teaspoon is just right.
Use store-bought wonton wrappers for ease, or make your own if you’re adventurous.
Extra wontons can be frozen raw and cooked straight from frozen.
Variations
Spicy Kick: Add chili oil or a spoonful of sriracha to the broth.
Miso Twist: Stir in a tablespoon of miso paste for a deeper umami flavor.
Veggie Version: Swap ground chicken for mushrooms, cabbage, or tofu.
Noodle Soup: Add thin egg noodles for extra heartiness.
